What We Believe

I appeal to you, brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.

Core Beliefs

We are a grace-oriented body of believers that recognize God's grace goes beyond our individual understanding of the divine. With that said, we also feel the weight of the responsibility & joy of trying to best know our Heavenly Father.
The following are the core beliefs of Centerville Church of Christ based on the foundational truths taught in the Bible.

God

There is one eternally existing God who has three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. He is the creator of all that exists, both visible and invisible, and is therefore worthy of all glory and praise.  God is perfect in love, power, holiness, goodness, knowledge, wisdom,  justice, and mercy. He is unchangeable and therefore is the same yesterday, today, and tomorrow.

We believe that Jesus was (and is) the incarnate Son of God who was both fully human and fully God. Through Jesus we see and know the fullness of God. We believe he died on the cross and was resurrected from the dead.

Mankind

Humans, both male and female, were created in God's image for His glory. The first humans, Adam and Eve, were created without sin and appointed as caretakers of the rest of God's creations. Since sin entered the world, humanity has been plagued by unescapable sin that corrupts our relationship with each other and the Lord. As Christians we strive to follow the example of Jesus in holy living internally & externally.

Salvation

Jesus Christ came to reconcile us with God. He lived a life without sin and willingly died on the cross to pay the penalty for our transgressions and rescue us from Satan's grasp. Salvation is now offered as a free gift to all who call on the name of the Lord in faith. The Bible shows us that a true believer will turn from sin, put their faith in Jesus, confess him as Lord, and be born again of water and the Spirit through baptism.

The Church

We believe the church is a community of believers who have been saved through the blood of Jesus, adopted into God’s family and called to represent Christ in the world. The church is the body of Christ, the temple of the Holy Spirit, and the foundation of truth. A healthy congregation will be one that actively participates in the mission of God to realize His will in the world. We believe that actively participating in the church is essential for growing in Christ.

The Bible

We believe the Bible is the word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit. It prepares and equips believers for every good work. The Bible serves as the ultimate authority for faith, morality, and Christian living. Though written in a specific historical and geographical context, its truth is eternal and unchanging, standing firm regardless of cultural shifts or current events.

The Second Coming

We believe that Jesus will return one day to raise the dead, judge all people with righteousness, establish the fullness of God’s kingdom, and reign forever with His people.
